Hydrophane
Hicham Berrada (b. 1986, Casablanca, Morocco) lives and works in Paris and Roubaix, France.
Hydrophane opal is a silica-based mineraloid that absorbs water and reveals shifting color when exposed to light. Hydrophane presents an actual opal housed in a small crystal box at its base, where it is continuously filmed. This live, rotating image is projected onto large screens above, where the magnified image transforms into a prism-like field of refracted color.
