Piggy Bank
Rodney McMillian (b. 1969, Columbia, South Carolina) lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
Piggy Bank is a 23-foot-tall sculpture of a pig-shaped money container. The piggy bank is a domestic object used to teach children about saving and asset growth. A black protrusion extends from its body, suggesting malignant growths or tumors. The work draws on histories of redlining and predatory lending in the United States, linking the image of the piggy bank to broader systems of wealth, accumulation, and inequality.
